A few weeks ago I spent some time with my friend, Elizabeth Marek, turning my dining room into a small filming studio. We set out to bring you some wonderful tutorials to be featured on the Sugar Geek Show! It was a whirlwind of a weekend filming and having fun with all things cake.
In Part 1 you will learn all about three beautiful buttercream flowers. This cake is made entirely with Swiss Meringue buttercream. You will see that it works wonderfully and is completely stable for piping lovely flowers.
The Hydrangea is the first flower you will learn how to make. Whimsical and soft it serves as a light focal point on top of our buttercream flower wreath cake.
Our second flower is more dominant and a bolder color grounding our flower pattern with the Chrysanthemum. This flower is a tad more time consuming but worth the effort. Remember....if you have hot hands take a break often or have an ice pack close by to cool your hands down some. Especially if you work in a tropical climate....like South Texas. :)
Our last flower that we will be focusing on is probably one of my favorites....the filler flower. So understated, yet so significant how it subtly carries the design of the cake the rest of the way to completion with finishing touches of buds and leaves.
